Media reform is central to protecting democracy. This issue affects every foundation and nonprofit group in the U.S.

We agree with Bill Moyers when he says, "Secrecy is the freedom tyrants dream of." In general, we're interested in organizations working toward U.S. media reform, replacing secrecy and corporate control with access, independence and accuracy. That said, we are currently not accepting Letters of Inquiry while we develop our funding focus for 2008. Please check back frequently for updates.

Quixote Foundation is motivated by these media reform goals:

  • individuals have daily access to accurate news information from a variety of independently owned and operated sources, including topics relevant to local communities and their issues

  • individual journalists and media entities provide truthful analysis and full bias disclosure as a condition of access to public airwaves

  • no individual or entity can influence or suppress the media due to money, power, political influence or discriminatory access
